Master Plan 2050 Main Station/Central

An integral design for the urban space between the main station and Central was developed under the motto "large-scale clean-up". The Masterplan 2050 envisages enormous space gains for pedestrians, beautiful historic buildings, an attractive bicycle network and more well-being. Car traffic will be reduced.

Under the motto "large-scale tidying up", an integral design for the urban space between the main station and Central was elaborated.
The conclusion from the Masterplan 2050 is:

- Enormous space gain for pedestrian traffic, but also versatile possibilities for appropriation, use, design, greening, climate measures, etc.
- Beauty of the city: historic buildings, panoramas, etc.
- Coherent network, direct routes, crossability of streets, attractive bicycle network.
- Sense of well-being (overview, orientation, sense of safety).
- Efficiency and capacity gain of public transport, despite reduction of space requirements, thanks to smart network solution.
- Paradigm shift in the location of streetcar stops: Accessibility BeHiG, multifunctionality, etc.
- Car traffic: accessibility for destination traffic / delivery remains, steering of transit traffic via station quay tunnel, 20-30% in the long term. Reduction to avoid additional traffic on other roads.

With the planning, the Central Station area is to be upgraded in terms of urban development and access to the Old Town and Polybahn is to be made more attractive and pedestrian-friendly.
