Cantonal School, Theme Gardens & Student Cafeteria Chur

With the renovation of the Cleric building, all the open spaces of the school and swimming pool were examined with respect to their potential. A loose grove of light-permeable indigenous trees frames the site and embeds it in the surrounding landscape zone. In addition to the open entrance squares and extensive lawn areas, the future steps and the school garden with its theme gardens form the center. They are a both a schoolyard and place for lessons. The school garden is structured into theme gardens. The new replacement building for the cafeteria/media center is nestled against the existing rock face. The open space has an extensive sequence of quite diverse spaces with very diverse uses. The design is thus adapted to the respective function. Between the cafeteria and the rock face is an area for spending time equipped with seating. An attached steel staircase provides access to the space for boarders. The spacious seating landscape facing the theme gardens invites spending time. The continuous leafy canopy of the oak trees links the open space with the existing surroundings of the Cleric building and unites the entire site as a whole.
